Ije Amaechi is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and also a music tutor and workshop leader for Hertfordshire Music Service (HMS).
Ije started taking part in songwriter workshops run by HMS at the age of 14 and performed an original song solo at The Royal Albert Hall a year later. She has been working for HMS since 2016, alongside completing a BA in Music and Development Studies at SOAS, University of London.
Since then she has been working in schools, youth clubs, education support centres and music centres, providing a non-judgemental space for children and young people to be creative and find their voice through music. With a background in UK Youth Parliament and Watford Youth Council, Ije also helped form the Stevenage Young Music Leaders, a group of young people who train to become music leaders with the space to learn, make music and friends and organise gigs for local songwriters to perform.
Ije believes that everyone from all walks of life should have the chance to connect to music and be able to use it as a positive tool in their lives. She advocates for using music to deal with emotions and processing confusing thoughts or feelings through song-writing or being present in the moment by playing an instrument or singing.
You can find her music by searching Ije Amaechi on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and other major platforms or listen to Ije’s first single Loved and Lost, released on February 14th, 2020.
